Senior Pastor

Dante D. Wright I, Ph.D. has spent the past 20 years faithfully serving as Senior Pastor of Sweet Home Baptist Church of Round Rock, Texas; affectionately known as The Pinnacle of Praise. He is a devoted Pastor and Homiletician who is committed to proclaiming and teaching the Word of God in both the sanctuary and the seminary.

Dr. Wright is a former Professor of Christian Studies at Anderson University. Before joining Anderson’s faculty, he taught as an adjunct professor at Criswell College and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His academic journey reflects both depth and dedication: he has earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in Homiletics and a Th.M. from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; a Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity from Liberty Theological Seminary; a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership from Criswell College; and a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Southeast Missouri State University. His passion for biblical scholarship has taken him far beyond the classroom to study abroad in Israel, Greece, and Oxford, England.

Dr. Wright’s sermon, The Temptation to Quit, was published in the 2008 Oxford Sermons collection, which is a testament to his ability to inspire through both voice and pen. His ministry and leadership extend well beyond the sanctuary and seminary, having served as Vice President and Recording Secretary of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, and as a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., the Academy of Homiletics, the Criswell College Board of Trustees, the Evangelical Homiletical Society, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

A sought-after preacher and lecturer, Dr. Wright has delivered keynote addresses and lectures in South Africa and at esteemed institutions including Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Liberty University’s Rawlings Divinity School, Huston-Tillotson University.

Dr. Wright is a devoted family man and enjoys spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, you will find him reading or cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, his favorite football team.

Above all, Dr. Wright is a man of God on a mission to develop Christian Disciples through the Word to influence the world.
